What is yellow fever & how do you catch it?

Yellow fever is a viral illness spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes, mainly in parts of Africa, South and Central America, and the Caribbean. It cannot be passed from person to person. Symptoms range from mild flu-like signs to severe cases involving liver damage and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). Travellers to affected areas are at risk, but the disease is preventable with a single-dose vaccine that offers lifelong protection and is often required for entry into certain countries.

Yellow Fever Vaccination

The yellow fever vaccination provides lifelong protection against a serious mosquito-borne virus found in parts of Africa and South America. It’s a single-dose vaccine recommended for travellers to affected areas and may be required for entry into some countries. The vaccine is highly effective and should be given at least 10 days before travel for full immunity.
